Gladedale gives a boost to art project
Gladedale South Yorkshire has awarded a generous donation to local community art related projects in the Bolsover District. The money will be spent on a sculpture to raise the profile of the Creswell Crags. And some will be invested in a series of art workshops within the area by offering small grants for art groups to bid for.The main sculpture will be commissioned by the Bolsover Arts Development Officer, Carole Hirst, and will take pride of place at the entrance to Gladedale South Yorkshire's newest development, Blossom Walk.
The donation by Gladedale South Yorkshire will allow the piece of art to be made from magnesium limestone to reflect the heritage of the nearby Creswell Crags site, by local artist Amanda Wray. The stone will be sculptured in to a design which reflects ideas from consultations with the local community.
Mark Mitchell, regional director for Gladedale South Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to be able to contribute to the local community in this way with a lasting artwork for local people to enjoy for years to come.
"It is also a great opportunity to involve local children in the design of a lasting piece of artwork which will be located at Blossom Walk and become an integral part of the landscape."
Bolsover District Council Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Councillor Ann Syrett said, "The sculpture will compliment the history and heritage of the crags and provide an impressive site when entering this new development. The arts' is an interactive and participatory activity and we are very pleased local people will have an input into the artwork that will give people of all ages something to enjoy when they are visiting or walking around the village."
The premium housebuilder is currently laying the foundations for the development of 50 homes at Blossom Walk consisting of a range of two, three and four bedroom properties.
In addition to the £30,000 contribution towards artwork, Gladedale South Yorkshire is also providing an equipped children's play area, changing room facilities and a car park for local residents to use along with a large area of neighbourhood open space adjacent to the development.
Gladedale South Yorkshire also boosted the celebrations at the recent Shine Festival in Creswell with a £100 prize for the treasure trial.
