Home is where the art is

5th May 2009 Print
Home is where the art is Classrooms at a Sheffield primary school are set to be upgraded thanks to an arty initiative set up by a local housebuilder. The pupils at Hallam Primary School have been busy creating pictures of their dream home for a design competition set up by Antler Homes.

The private housebuilder said it would donate £2 to the school for every entry received and is now going to present the school with a cheque for £900.

Wendy Roberts, Key Stage One Coordinator at the school, commented: “The money raised from the competition will go towards improving classrooms in the infant department – we hope to make them more homely, creative spaces, with new furniture and items for role-play.”

Louise Giles, from Antler Homes’ development at Barncliffe, judged the competition, choosing one winner from each class. “The standard of entries from the pupils was really high and we may have found some budding architects,” commented Louise. “Many had included elevation drawings and had applied a technical approach – it was very difficult to judge!”

Thirty of the entries were displayed in the show home of Antler Homes’ Barncliffe development in Redmires Road, Sheffield over the bank holiday weekend, and will continue to be displayed on the walls until the end of May.

Barncliffe is a prestigious development offering four and five bedroom homes on the edge of the Peak District and opposite Hallamshire Golf Course. The show home is open from 10am – 5pm, Thursday to Monday. For more information about the development, visit antlerhomes.co.uk.
