Air Southwest increases Newquay-Cork flights

5th March 2007 Print
Air Southwest has announced another increase in services from Newquay Cornwall Airport with the introduction of new flights to Cork in southern Ireland from just £27 including taxes.

The new flights start on May 4 and tickets go on sale today. They will operate three days a week on Monday, Friday and Sunday throughout May, with a Wednesday flight being introduced from June.

Flights leave Newquay at 11.20am and arrive in Cork at 12.10pm, giving a flight time of less than an hour. Flights leave Cork at 12.55 and arrive in Newquay at 13.45.

Mike Coombes, deputy chief executive at Air Southwest, said: “A service to Cork was the next logical step in our continued development of services out of Newquay.

“We expect the route to be popular with inbound visitors from Ireland wanting to sample the best that Cornwall has to offer and it’s a fantastic short break opportunity for the people of Cornwall.”

The new flights have been welcomed by airport owner Cornwall County Council. Council Leader David Whalley said, “I am pleased that Air Southwest is extending its services from Newquay airport. This adds to the destinations available from the airport and also indicates the success of Air Southwest. I hope this route will be a successful as the other routes already provided by the company.”

The new flights follow Air Southwest’s announcement last week that it was re-introducing a second daily service from Newquay to Leeds Bradford in time for the busy summer season, and is planning to boost weekend flights to Leeds over the next few months.

County Cork is situated in the South West of Ireland and is the largest of all the Irish counties, and in many ways the most varied.

Rich farmlands and river valleys contrast with wild sandstone hills and spectacular mountains, including Ireland’s highest, Carrauntoohil, at 1,039 m. There is more than 1,000km of spectacular coastline which has been shaped by the Atlantic into great bays and secret coves, strewn with rocky headlands and long soft golden sands.

Cork itself was founded over 1,000 years ago and it has grown from a trading merchant town into a vibrant cosmopolitan city. Situated on the banks of the river Lee, it is home to 123,000 people and is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland.

Air Southwest also flies from Newquay to London Gatwick, Cardiff, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Bristol and Dublin. Fares start from just £27 one-way including taxes and are available online at Airsouthwest.com.
