Flight Centre on best companies list

Flight Centre is the only travel company to have made it onto the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies to Work for List for five years running, this year jumping up the list by 14 places.

Employees voted Flight Centre a great place to work again propelling the company to 45th position, up from last year’s 59th position on the list of the Sunday Times 100 best companies to work for in Britain.

The UK’s fastest growing independent travel retailer was presented with the esteemed workplace award in the annual survey conducted by the Sunday Times on 1 March, with the full list appearing in a supplement in the Sunday Times, 11 March.

Lin Hilditch, head of Peopleworks, said it was fantastic news that yet again the company’s employees had given positive feedback on the organisation and that the company had managed to go up the list by 14 places.

“For the past five years we have made the Sunday Times Best companies list, ranking us as one of the top 100 employers in the UK. We are extremely proud to have consistently achieved this, given that the competition gets stiffer every year.

"We value the feedback that we get from our employees and use the results to ensure we are continually improve the working environment, which has been proven this year as we have moved back up the list, something that is getting harder to do each year.

“We are a people-focused business and our culture is about cultivating personal and career development as well as giving our employees a strong degree of empowerment through ownership of their business. Our employees clearly appreciate this along with our innovative and unique approach that rewards hard work through its uncapped incentive scheme”.

Employees gave Flight Centre an 86% positive score for having fun at work and say workmates care a lot about each other (84%) and that they trust them to do a good job (86%). They say their managers share important information and regularly show their appreciation when they have done a good job (both 81%), which results in staff feeling fully involved at work (82%). Employees think they gain valuable experience for their future (78%). They also feel they can make a difference (74%).

The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list identifies Britain’s best employers by surveying 250 randomly selected employees from the company, and then following this up with an assessment by the Sunday Times. This year 894 company’s entered, with 657 going through the process.

The survey evaluates employee’s trust in management, pride in their work and the company, and staff satisfaction and camaraderie. Employees were also asked to fill out a cultural assessment of the company looking at company structure, ownership and benefits.

Flight Centre has been operating in the UK for just over ten years and currently employs 550 people and has 97 high street stores. The company is part of Flight Centre Limited, one of the world’s leading travel retailers, which has more than 1,500 stores in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Canada.
