Cork flights take off

Mike Coombes, deputy chief executive at Air Southwest, said: “As the largest operator out of Newquay these new flights demonstrate our continued commitment to developing low fare air services to and from Cornwall.
“They offer a great short break opportunity for a trip to Southern Ireland and we are confident the route will be popular with inbound visitors wanting to sample the delights of Cornwall.”
Chris Cain, Newquay Cornwall Airport Project Director commented, “We are pleased that Air Southwest has chosen to expand its route network by adding this new service to Cork, bringing its total number of destinations served from Newquay to seven. We view Air Southwest as an important partner in the future growth of Newquay Cornwall Airport and will continue helping them to make the Cork route a great success.”
Among the first to fly on Air Southwest’s new Cork service was Valerie Simpson from Penzance. Valerie said: “Being able to fly from so close from home is great. Going to Cork gives us the chance to explore a part of Ireland we haven’t been to before.”
Also on the first flight was Rebecca Fenner from Newquay, who welcomed the new service: "We’ve never been to Ireland before so these new flights have given us an ideal opportunity to go. With the short flight, and leaving so close to home, it’s so convenient.”
County Cork is situated in the South West of Ireland and is the largest of all the Irish counties, and in many ways the most varied. Rich farmlands and river valleys contrast with wild sandstone hills and spectacular mountains, including Ireland’s highest, Carrauntoohil, at 1,039 m. There is more than 1,000km of spectacular coastline which has been shaped by the Atlantic into great bays and secret coves, strewn with rocky headlands and long soft golden sands.
Air Southwest also flies from Newquay to London Gatwick, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff and Dublin. Fares start from just £27 one-way including taxes and are available online at Airsouthwest.com.
