Aer Arann to launch unique new plane

13th June 2007 Print
Aer Arann the fastest growing regional airline, flying between the UK, Ireland and Northern France invites you to join them to celebrate the launch of their uniquely designed new plane, the ATR 72-500, at Luton Airport on Wednesday 4 July 2007. This new plane is the first step in upgrading Aer Arann’s fleet.

Aer Arann continues their allegiance to turboprops rather than a jet engine, which operate at lower altitudes, unaffecting the ozone layer and upper atmosphere, use less fuel and have a significantly smaller noise footprint. Here are some interesting stats:

- A turboprop such as an Aer Arann ATR-72-500 emits 20% less CO2 per passenger-km than newer jets

- The ATR gaseous emissions in terms of CO (carbon monoxide) are 15 times lower per passenger than those of a car and are comparable to those of a train.

- The ATR produces 3 times less Nox (Nitrous Oxides) per passenger than a car and 40% less than a train.

- Fuel consumption per passenger for a journey of 370km for an ATR 72 is 16 litres, for a car 18 litres and 27 litres for a jet with 120 pax

- An ATR 72 uses as much fuel on a typical 370km sector as a Boeing 747 uses in 10 minutes taxiing!

- An ATR 72 uses up to 70% less fuel than a jet on a standard Aer Arann flight sector.

- On a 350 km sector the fuel consumption per passenger of an ATR 72-500 is up to 15% lower than that of a typical European car.

- Low levels of engine emissions are driven by low fuel consumption
