Terminal 2 at Lisbon airport opens today
From August 1, domestic departures from Lisbon Airport will fly from the new Terminal 2 building. Passengers departing from Lisbon and with any of the airports within national territory - Faro, Porto, Bragança, Vila Real, Madeira and the Azores – as their destination shall begin departing as of that date from the new Terminal 2.Access to Terminal 2 (T2) is gained via a concourse located in Alameda das Comunidades Portuguesas, close to the current departure zone at Lisbon Airport.
There are no parking zones available at T2 with only the dropping off of passengers carried by taxis, coaches or transported in private vehicles permitted.
Passengers that are going to embark from T2 and that arrive at the airport in their own vehicle may leave the same in the parking bays of the main terminal or use the “ValetXpress” service offered by ANA.
Another access alternative at T2 is via the main terminal with continual free shuttles available between the departure zone of the main terminal and T2, in addition to the parking bays (P5, P4 and P3) and the new terminal.
During his initial phase, T2 shall be open exclusively for departures and domestic flight arrivals will continue to be processed at the main terminal.
New aerogare has 22 check-in desks.
Occupying a total area of 7700 square meters and with the capacity to handle 1500 passengers an hour, T2 has a check-in zone with 2100 square meters and 22 desks, six kiosks for electronic check-ins (CUSS), a desk to process oversized luggage, six security stations, airline company ticket desks, restaurant space, restrooms and technical support facilities.
The new terminal will be able to process around 66 departures/day and a total of 5000 passengers, a quarter of which in transit. Of the 12 departure gates available, one is set aside for transit passengers who are going to embark on domestic flights.
The waiting area in the departure lounge has the capacity to sit 360 passengers, a space set aside for restaurants and commerce, two lounges with approximately 30 and 50 seated places, as well as restrooms and support facilities.
Passengers in transit
Passengers in transit will be forwarded to a specific zone – the QTC (Quick Transfer Center) – where there are ten passport control booths, eight irregularity desks (three for the Schengen area and five for Non-Schengen areas), two entry access doors (one for Schengen passengers and one for Non-Schengen and third parties), to exit access doors for Schengen departures and Non-Schengen/third party departures, restrooms, a support area and customs’ service area. With 1200 square meters, this area has the capacity to handle 750 passengers/hour.
Baggage Processing
Despite not having a baggage collection area since the terminal is exclusively designated for departures only, the new infrastructure has a baggage terminal with the capacity to process 1800 items of luggage per hour on two climbing baggage carousels.
