High demand for AirAsia X’s new Perth route

21st May 2008 Print
High demand for AirAsia X’s new Perth route AirAsia X, the pioneering low-cost long-haul airline, reports that it has been positively overwhelmed with strong demand for seats following the launch of its latest route to Perth, Australia.

The new route will complement AirAsia X’s existing connection to the Gold Coast, already functioning at 85% capacity, and will be serviced with six direct weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Perth from November this year. Low fares start from just AUD$99.
The launch has been met with equally huge demand with a 50/50 split between Australian and Malaysian based travellers purchasing 12,000 seats in just 10 hours of the flights going on-line.

Responding to the impressive response from travellers, Azran Oman-Rani, CEO AirAsia X, said: “The intense online traffic within the first hour of the route being available to book on-line exceeded our expectations and confirmed the pent up demand for this under-serviced route. The huge response shows the strength of our brand in the competitive Australian market and the attractiveness of our low-cost offering.”

The new route will be AirAsia X’s third international destination since the airline launched in November 2007. The airline currently operates 4 flights per week to the Gold Coast, Australia and 5 flights per week to Hangzhou, China.
