Finnair helps you reduce your carbon footprint

1st August 2008 Print
Finnair continues to look for opportunities to reduce emissions and minimise its overall carbon footprint. Apart from the more obvious and major initiatives, such as route optimisation and fleet modernity, recent and surprisingly effective actions have included washing aircraft engines more frequently. The latest, small but important initiative, is to offer readers of the Finnair magazine, ‘blue wings’ an online ezine edition.

By choosing the ezine, rather than a printed hard copy, there are a few plusses for both readers and the environment, including:

• Readers receive the magazine earlier than they would with the hard copy.
• They have the flexibility to click onto any story of their choice, any time, without the need to keep a magazine on their desk or in their brief case.
• They have immediate access to back copies, without the need to store them – and can forward individual articles of interest to colleagues.
• By helping Finnair to reduce the print run and the international freight and the mail distribution associated with the ten issues of ‘blue wings’ each year, readers are taking a very active step, in assisting in the reduction of both their own and Finnair’s carbon footprints. (After all, who would have predicted that more frequent engine washing would reduce the burning of a million plus euros value of fuel in a year!)

You can sample the ezine version of the current ‘blue wings’ right now by going to: digipaper.fi/bluewings/ and clicking on the cover graphic in the top left corner. Or, if you prefer, look at a few of the highlights, in the panel below and click-thru from there.

If you like what you find, send Finnair an email, with the subject ‘blue wings’ to June.Wang@finnair.com and, with each new issue, you will be sent an email to tell you a fresh ‘blue wings’ is ready for you to enjoy. In fact, if you feel there are colleagues who would also appreciate the ‘blue wings’ ezine, please show them as copy addressees on your email, so Finnair can include them too.
