Brits getting frustrated with flight departure delays

24th September 2008 Print
Cheapflights.co.uk reveals that British travellers’ top pet hate for airport departures are unexplained delays. In an age where 32 percent* of flights in the UK are experiencing delays, the website polled its viewers finding that long delays without updates stole 27 percent of their votes.

Following at a close second was the frustration aired by passengers having to put liquids in plastic bags when passing through security. Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights.co.uk says, “The number of times I’ve accidentally walked through check-in with a bottle of water in my bag makes it hard to take some the existing security procedures seriously.”

But take heart weary travellers as help is at hand from Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading flight price comparison website which has created entirely new content dedicated to making the airport experience easier and perhaps even a little fun with its all new Airport Guides section, which can be viewed at cheapflights.co.uk/airports/.

The section comprises comprehensive guides to more than 150 airports from six different continents including North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Oceania. Among the wealth of information available to users are:

- Airport parking information including contact phone numbers, website details and information on how to get the best deal

- Airport transportation on getting into town to and from the airport including information on rail, taxi, shuttle, bus, coach and private limousine services

- Driving directions on which motorways allow access to the different terminals as well as airport maps

On the entertainment front, the airport guides also contain useful information on airport facilities. For example, travellers to Singapore Changi Airport can while the hours away by enjoying a fitness centre, swimming pool, transit hotels, full banking services, and even a medical centre.

And if that’s not enough, visit Cheapflights.co.uk’s tips page on Airport Amusements at cheapflights.co.uk/travel-tips/airport-amusements/ for advice on everything from restaurants and lounges to airport entertainment on a budget – the latter being very useful during the current credit crisis.

Travel Expert for Cheapflights.co.uk, Nadine Hallak comments in saying, “With flight delays on the rise and the travel industry experiencing some general turbulence at the moment, any service that helps to ease the traveller’s journey, particularly in a foreign country, is of great importance. I personally once experienced a 14 hour delay several years ago and a guide section like this one could have made the exhausting experience much more comfortable and potentially even entertaining.”
