Tourism Malaysia welcomes Air Asia X
Beginning March 11th, 2009, Malaysia will become more accessible than ever before following the announcement that Air Asia X will be commencing service from London Stansted to Kuala Lumpur. With one-way fares including taxes starting from just £99 each way, Tourism Malaysia is confident that Kuala Lumpur will become the new crossroads of Asia. This year, Malaysia will welcome more than 300,000 British travellers. This figure is the highest-ever number of UK visitors the nation has ever enjoyed. Tourism Malaysia is confident that the Air Asia X route launch will surge these numbers to even greater heights in 2009 and beyond.
Tourism Malaysia UK Director, Abdul Rauf Abu Hassan, stated: “Tourism is the second-highest income generator for Malaysia after manufacturing. The goal of Tourism Malaysia is to increase the number of travellers from the UK and Ireland that visit Malaysia annually and increase awareness about the nation and its geography.
“Adding a second direct route into Malaysia is only going to strengthen our position in the tourism market. We are excited by the low fares on offer from Air Asia X and hope that in a turbulent economic climate, people will consider Malaysia to be an affordable and realistic destination. We will be giving our support to the Air Asia X team and look forward to working together with them in a close capacity over the coming years."
