Air Southwest welcomes Newquay re-opening

The announcement by Newquay Cornwall Airport that it will re-open for business on Saturday 20 December has been welcomed by the airport's main airline operator, Air Southwest.

Mike Coombes, Deputy Chief Executive for Air Southwest said: “This is fantastic news. We know that our customers have been inconvenienced over the past three weeks, and we would like to thank them for bearing with us.”

He continued: “We have been working closely with the team at Newquay Airport to make sure that we kept disruption to a minimum throughout the time of the closure, and we’re delighted that our Newquay flights can now return to normal. We’re particularly pleased that the airport has re-opened in time for the festive season, allowing our customers to take advantage of the vital, year-round air links to and from Cornwall.”

Mr Coombes added: “As Cornwall’s own airline, Air Southwest operates eight routes from Newquay year-round including four flights a day, seven days a week to London Gatwick. From Saturday we will also be starting a winter ski service to Grenoble, further strengthening the number of destinations available with Air Southwest from Newquay.”

Andrew Mitchell, Economic Portfolio Holder for Cornwall County Council said: "As the main operator of flights from Newquay, Air Southwest has been very supportive of the airport during this difficult time. We would like to thank Air Southwest, and their customers, for their understanding and support. Now that the airport is once again open for business, we look forward to working with Air Southwest to reinforce the essential year-round links they provide to and from Newquay.”

To celebrate the re-opening of Newquay Cornwall Airport, Air Southwest is offering every seat on every flight from Newquay for just £29* (including all taxes and charges) to be booked by 28 December for travel during January 2009.
