Men know how to belt up onboard
Men may not stop the car to ask for directions but a recent survey by Cheapflights.co.uk found they pay more attention to airline take off and landing procedures than women.Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading price comparison website where you can search and compare the best deals on the market, polled its viewers to get their take on landing procedures pre-flight.
The site found more than one in five women (21 per cent) claim they never listen to the announcements made on board airlines, while just 13 per cent of men claim they prefer to read their magazine or book during the announcement.
Similar numbers of men (19 per cent) and women (17 per cent) listen only when trying new airlines. Regardless of whether men are interested in the announcements or just captivated by the cabin crew, 68 per cent of men always listen compared to just 62 per cent of women.
Francesca Ecsery, General Manager of Cheapflights.co.uk, comments:
“At one point or another, we’ve all put on our headphones or fallen asleep when the flight crew are making the announcements, but the results of this survey re-affirm how important take off and landing instructions really are.
“Procedures do vary slightly depending on which airline and aircraft you are travelling with, and it’s reassuring to know most of the British public are aware that if you’ve seen one, you definitely don’t know it all. However, with 17 per cent of respondents claiming to never pay attention, there’s definitely room for improvement.”
While some viewers adopted a laissez faire approach to the in-flight instructions, a positive 59 per cent of respondents are aware that procedures vary per airline and aircraft type.
