Skybus celebrates 50,000th passenger

Skybus, the airline providing flights to the Isles of Scilly, celebrated carrying its 50,000 passenger between Bristol and St Mary's on Monday 20 July.

John Leveson and his family checked in for their flight at Bristol International Airport on Monday afternoon and were greeted with the news that John Leveson was the 50,000 passenger to travel with Skybus between Bristol and St Mary's.

The airline which also flies from Land’s End, Newquay, Exeter and Southampton has been operating flights to the Isles of Scilly for 25 years and has been flying from Bristol since 1995.

John and his family were treated to celebrations at both Bristol International Airport and St Mary’s.

Upon arrival at the Isles of Scilly, Andrew May, Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, parent company of Skybus, welcomed the visitors and presented them with a certificate, celebratory bottle of champagne and vouchers for a future visit.

John was delighted to be the 50,000 passenger to travel between Bristol and St Mary's, he said: “It was a huge surprise. My family and I have been to the Isles of Scilly before and were really looking forward to our trip. This really is the icing on the cake.

“Our flight from Bristol to St Mary’s was lovely, the views, as always were spectacular. The welcome from the Chairman, Andrew May and the bottle champagne when we landed was fantastic, it looks like the holiday has got off to a great start!”

Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, Andrew May said: “Carrying our 50,000 passenger on this route is a great achievement and it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate such a milestone event.

“I hope Mr Leveson and his family have a lovely holiday on the Islands and we look forward to welcoming them back on Skybus again.”

In August Skybus will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary having offered flights to the Isles of Scilly from land’s End since 1984. Over the years Skybus has carried almost one million passengers from all of their airports.
