The company has unveiled plans for Maes Y Fynnon, a range of one, two, three and four bedroom properties in Abercynon, which offers a unique combination of village life and excellent travel links.

Barratt Homes Sales Director Sandra Dixon said “Abercynon has two stations, which is extremely unusual for a village. Abercynon North station is on the line from Cardiff to Aberdare and Abercynon South is on the Cardiff to Merthyr Tydfil line.

“This makes this a rare opportunity for young professionals, families or older people who want to exchange the city for village life, at affordable prices, but still have the option of extremely easy journeys to major locations.”

The village, in Rhondda Cynon Taff, holds a special place in industrial as well as musical history - it was the terminus for the world’s first ever steam railway journey on February 21 1804.

There is a strong community spirit and Abercynon also boasts its own rugby league side, the Valley Cougars, which plays in the Welsh Conference Premier league.

The development is designed to be accessible to young families and those moving up to larger homes, with a wide choice of two and three bedroom terraces, including Barratt’s extremely popular Maidstone, Washington, Gloucester and Alderney designs.

The first properties at the site will be released for sale shortly. To register for advance details log on to Barratthomes.co.uk.
