Just married couple get a head start in their new home

Just married couple get a head start in their new home Emma Reeve and Courtney Philp, both 26, can’t believe their luck. Not only have they just purchased their first home together at Barratt South Wales’ Maes Y Ffynnon development in Abercynon, they got such a good deal they can now afford to get married much sooner than they thought.

Courtney, a medical underwriter, and Emma who works for an insurance company, as an administrator, both work in central Cardiff. The couple moved into their brand new three-bedroom house at the end of June; it cost £106,995 but with Barratt’s ‘Head Start’ scheme, they are only paying an 85% mortgage, which works out at an affordable £513 per month.

‘Head Start’ allows buyers to move into a brand new home for only 85 per cent of the purchase price, while still owning a full 100 per cent of the property. No interest or rent is payable on the 15 per cent deferred, which is paid back as 15 per cent of the property’s open market value at any time up to the resale of the property or within ten years, whichever is sooner.

Emma and Courtney had both been living with their parents and never thought they would be able to get married so soon after buying a house.

Emma says: “We’d been living with our parents but really wanted to buy a home of our own. We are so thrilled with our house, but we thought marriage would have to wait until the end of next year. Thanks to the ‘Head Start’ scheme, we’ve been able to move the wedding forward a whole year. All our dreams have come true and we’ll be tying the knot in October. What’s more, with three bedrooms, there’s plenty of space to start a family when the time is right.”

A new two-bedroom Washington style showhome has recently opened at Maes Y Ffynnon. This attractive home has a spacious open plan living/dining room with French windows, a fully-fitted kitchen with a range of modern integrated appliances, and a downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs, there are two good-sized bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Courtney says: “The location is ideal. We’re close enough to Cardiff for work and to enjoy all the city has to offer. It only takes us 20 minutes to get there by train and the road links are great too; it takes around half an hour to drive to the centre.”

Maes Y Ffynnon, located in the Cynon Valley, offers an excellent choice of attractive terraced, semi-detached and detached houses. The scheme lies just off the A470 at the confluence of the Cynon and Taff Rivers, around 15 miles north of Cardiff.

Now is a great time to buy with prices from £95,995 for a two-bedroom house with parking, £112,500 for a three-bedroom house with parking and £174,995 for a four-bedroom house with a garage.

The sales and marketing suite at Maes Y Ffynnon, Ynysboeth, Abercynon, Mountain Ash, Mid Glamorgan, CF45 4AZ is open Sunday to Wednesday and Friday 11am to 6pm, Thursday 1pm to 8pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm. More information is available on barratthomes.co.uk.
