Couple buy first home ‘up in the mountains’

The couple, determined to buy their first home together rather than spending money on renting, started looking for a property in January. They were both living and working in Merthyr Tydfil so were delighted to discover Brecon View Park, a new development by Barratt South Wales in an attractive hilltop location with breathtaking views of the Brecon Beacons and less than two miles from the town centre.
Lisa, who works for the local council and Dean, who works for T-mobile, bought a three-bedroom house off-plan for £101,000 with one of Barratt’s schemes, that help First Time Buyers get a foot on the ladder.
The housebuilder is currently offering its new Head Start scheme, where you can buy a brand new home with only an 85 per cent mortgage; Barratt will pay the other 15 per cent as an interest free loan for up to 10 years. The repayment of the 15 per cent is at the market value at the point of resale, transfer, or the end of the 10 year period, whether this is more or less than the original purchase price.
Lisa says: “We decided we wanted to buy a new home so we didn’t have the worry about maintenance; it’s a big enough decision buying your first home and we didn’t want the added stress of things going wrong once we had moved in.”
Both Lisa and Dean realised the potential at Brecon View Park as soon as they visited.
“The views were amazing and although only a few of the homes had been built when we first visited, we knew that people would be snapping them up and we should act fast,” Lisa continued.
Dean adds: “Barratt enabled us to buy a fantastic house in an outstanding location. We cannot believe how lucky we have been. We bought off plan so we didn’t miss out on the house we wanted; however the same house type is available at a Barratt development in Swansea so we took a look at this to get a better feel for what our new home would be like. We’ve just moved in and already it feels like home!”
Brecon View Park offers two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses. The historical town of Merthyr Tydfil has much to offer including a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and is home to Cyfarthfa Castle. Good transport links ensure stress-free commuting, making this picturesque development ideal for young professionals and families alike.
Prices for homes currently available are from £124,995 for a two-bedroom house and from £134,500 for a three-bedroom house. The sales and marketing suite at Brecon View Park, Heol Gerrig, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 1TF is open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 6pm.
Barratt is the premier housebuilder in South Wales where it has been building new homes for 30 years. Barratt South Wales works closely with local Housing Associations, in addition to the Welsh Assembly Government, to bring forward opportunities for first-time-buyers and key workers.
