An affordable and spacious solution for would-be downsizers
With their two sons grown-up Diane and Terry Hole decided it was time to downsize from their family home of 32 years - until they discovered they didn't need to scrimp on space with a Redrow townhouse. The couple, both 61, moved into their brand new three-bedroom ‘Lambourne' home at Redrow's Cae Ffrwnais development in Ebbw Vale last month and couldn't be happier with their three floors of living space.
Retired Diane said: "We had lived in the same three-bedroom semi-detached house in Cwmbran for 32 years but decided it was time to look for a smaller home. We were initially looking at two-bedroom properties but couldn't find one that suited us.
"That's when we discovered the three-storey Lambourne at Cae Ffwrnais was in also in our price range. It's got a lovely spacious bedroom on the top floor with the luxury of an en-suite. Then we've got a larger bathroom and two further bedrooms on the first floor, which we are using as a study and a guest room."
On the ground floor the couple have a spacious open-plan kitchen/diner/living room - perfect for entertaining friends.
Diane added: "It ticked all the boxes for us. There's a bus stop close by, which gets you into town in 10 minutes. It's also only a short walk to the leisure centre and there are so many other things on the doorstep.
"We'd looked at several older properties but some of them needed an awful lot of work. Bearing in mind our age, we wanted to move in somewhere where we wouldn't have to do any repairs or renovations."
Luly Brice, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), said: "The layout of the Lambourne is perfect for a wide range of homebuyers; from friends sharing, couples and families as well as downsizers like Diane and Terry.
"With its master bedroom and en-suite in the cleverly converted roof space and two further bedrooms and a main bathroom on the first floor, the Lambourne offers plenty of living space options. Rooms not needed as bedrooms can double as home office space, a games room or maybe a gym."
Redrow's Cae Ffwrnais development, off Steelworks Road, is also just a stone's throw from the new rail line, which provides the first passenger rail link between Ebbw Vale and Cardiff for 46 years. It means the development is ideal for people commuting to Cardiff and other locations across South Wales. The area is also undergoing massive regeneration with plans afoot for a new general hospital.
Visitors to development can also find out about Redrow's great new ‘re:assure' package that's designed to make everything as easy as possible for homebuyers from the moment of enquiry until after they've moved in. As well as some great incentives to help customers save money or to ease the burden of moving home, there's even a promise to protect the value of their new home for up to three years.
At Cae Ffwrnais the available homes include one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom houses, with current prices from £102,995 to £176,995. Three-bedroom Lambournes, like Diane and Terry's, are available from £173,995.
