George Wimpey helps make a difference in Ruthin
George Wimpey North West has donated £1,000 on behalf of its Glasdir development to kick start a new fund which aims to transform unused outdoor spaces for the benefit of the community in Ruthin. The housebuilder is the founder member of the ‘Make a Difference' project, an initiative that has been developed in conjunction with the ex-Mayor of Ruthin Councillor Pat Astbury, the Crimebeat initiative, North Wales Police and local businesses together with other civic leaders.
Funds will be used for the upkeep of gardens and parks, public spaces and other civic areas around the town.
Councillor Pat Astbury commented: "This is an extremely generous donation from the team behind the Glasdir development and we are grateful to George Wimpey North West for being one of the driving forces behind the Make a Difference project. We are now hoping that other local companies and organisations in the community will get involved in whatever way they can."
The George Wimpey team at Glasdir has a particular interest in projects that can benefit the local environment, partially because Glasdir itself has outstanding environmental credentials.
The development won the EcoHomes category and is the first in Wales to have achieved an ‘Excellent' EcoHomes rating in the 2008 Welsh BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) awards.
Marie Wilkinson, George Wimpey North West sales & marketing director, said: "Glasdir will be an important addition to the Ruthin community, offering a range of homes that will appeal to everyone from first time buyers to larger families.
"We're committed to playing an active role in the local community and our support for the Make a Difference project is just one of a number of ways in which we'll be playing our part."
Set just off the Northern Link Road, Glasdir will include 178 properties when complete, ranging from two bedroom apartments up to three, four and five bedroom houses. Prices start from £134,995.
Early-bird incentives are available on selected plots.
