Limited edition fair trade dresses to be sold through Asos.com

Each of the three batwing dresses use the same silhouette of oversized and exaggerated proportions and with low-set pockets, have an unrestrictive slouch- fit, perfect for hazy spring days. Whilst using the same silhouette, each of the designs comes in varying fabrics and individual embellishments.
The chambray dress has been naturally dyed using cori and hortoki – a sustainable tree seed – to give the dress its beautiful brown hues. Handwoven at just 4 meters a day, the second dress made from Fairtrade cotton comes in a classic mono check. And, for a real statement, the black silk variant is finished with traditional nokshi kantha hand embroidery.
Strictly limited edition (65, 50 and 27 respectively) each dress is hand signed in Bengali by the producer who tailored it at Swallows, Bangladesh.
Speaking about the project Bora Aksu said; "I really believe that "fairtrade" is an over used description which shadows the importance of its actual meaning.
Living in a world which is far away from being perfect I believe we all have a responsibility. As a fashion designer its very important for me to keep every step of creating a garment from fabric to the end product under the same umbrella of purity. Having a beautiful garment with such poor and ugly conditions behind its root does make the garment ugly despite what it looks like. That’s why its very important for me to be part of such an umbrella of people who have the same heart and understanding."
The ideology of both People Tree and WFTD are encompassed within these beautiful designs with Fair Trade being a force for protecting the environment while promoting sustainable development. It favours the sustainable use of natural resources and production methods that are not capital or oil intensive, preferring hand production and traditional skills.
The limited edition Bora Aksu for People Tree dresses are a perfect way to celebrate how Fair Trade puts people and the environment central to its trading.
