Ward Homes wins planning permission for Lock’s Yard in Headcorn

21st October 2009 Print
Kent housebuilder, Ward Homes, has secured planning permission from Maidstone Council for a new residential development in the charming and picturesque village of Headcorn.

The approved scheme is a high quality development of 44 homes, which will regenerate a 2.4 acre brownfield site, formerly used as a transport yard. The development will comprise two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses. 33 of the new homes will be for private sale with 11 reserved as affordable housing.

The mix of homes reflect the local housing demand for first and second time buyers, as well as larger families needing more space. Sizes range from 659 sq ft for a two-bedroom apartment up to 1,474 sq ft for a spacious four-bedroom house. Many homes will boast fantastic views across open fields.

Work is due to begin on site in summer 2010 following the completion of ecology works, which can only be undertaken during the spring and early summer months. Homes will be released for sale in autumn 2010 and guide prices start from £175,000.

Nick Fenton, Managing Director for Ward Homes, said: “We are delighted by the decision of Maidstone Council to approve this planning application. We are confident our proposals represent a high-quality development which will significantly improve the visual impact of the site as well as benefit current and future local residents.”

Lock’s Yard is conveniently located for all amenities; the village High Street, with its range of shops, supermarket, cafés and village pubs, is just a short walk away.

The development is also within a short walk of Headcorn train station which has frequent services to Charing Cross and Cannon Street and can be reached in just over an hour. There are also regular train services to Canterbury, Ramsgate and Dover with frequent bus connections to Maidstone and Tenterden. The road network is also excellent; Headcorn is just 50 miles from London on either the A2 or M2 and Maidstone is just ten miles away.
