Kashmir tops the peaks for powder

Taking skiers to the world’s highest peaks, with arguably some of the most sensational powder this season, specialist UK tour operator to India, Indus Tours have recently launched their 2009/2010 ‘Ski India’ winter ski programme for Gulmarg, Kashmir.

Widely acknowledged as the final frontier amongst the skiing fraternity, Gulmarg is the northern hemisphere’s highest ski area boasting some of the best off-piste skiing in Asia. Nestled at 2650 metres on one of the six ranges of the mighty Himalayas and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, it is regarded as India’s premier ski resort.

Sporting the northern hemisphere’s highest gondola ski lift, which acsends to a heady 3980 metres, it provides lift served access to 1330 vertical metres of vast snowriding terrain with uncrowded slopes and amazing stretches of untouched powder.

Offered in collaboration with Ski Himalaya, Indus Tours ‘Ski India’ programme utilises Ski Himalaya’s expertise on the ground to give UK holidaymakers the very best ‘ride’ with a choice of ski in/ski out hotel accommodation and professional guiding with ‘Kashmir Powdercats’ - Ski Himalaya’s locally trained mountain hosts.

With this year’s programme based on a 9 night/7 day duration, the basic ‘Ski India’ package includes 5 full days of skiing with the Kashmir Powdercats (to ensure that holidaymakers make the best of their days on the slopes), a night on one of Kashmir’s famous houseboats on the picturesquely tranquil Lake Dal as well as a night in India’s capital city Delhi with the option of a day’s sightseeing before returning to the UK.

Yasin Zargar, Managing Director Indus Tours commented: “Kashmir and the Himalayas are a very special part of the world so what better way for the ski and snowboard enthusiast to appreciate this magnificent setting and get a real taste of Indian hospitality than from high on the slopes in exceptional powder.”

The 9 night/7 day basic package starts from £1345/person twin share including international and domestic flights, full board accommodation in Gulmarg at the Hotel Pine Palace or Hotel Heevan, skiing programme from Monday to Friday, an overnight stay on a Dal Lake houseboat with meals, all transfers, overnight B&B accommodation in Delhi, visa fee and handling charges.

Whilst having facilities to cater to all levels, Gulmarg’s off-piste terrain is best suited to advanced and expert skiers.
