1st December 2009 Print

Adventure Travel Live is an event for anyone planning an off-the-beaten-track travel adventure.  Whether you want to photograph Polar Bears in the Arctic, trek over the High Pamirs of Tajikistan, take your family to Vietnam or even to change your life by volunteering or taking a career break, Adventure Travel Live is where your big trip begins.

With specialist travel operators, exclusive show offers, interactive features and real-life experiences presented by explorers, adventurers and travel guides, Adventure Travel Live offers you everything under one roof so that you can research, plan and book your next big trip.

And the show has attracted an impressive line-up of experts to discuss the exciting world of adventure travel.

To open the show on the Friday evening, Simon Calder will be on stage interviewing some of the big hitters in travel, including Ben Fogle – TV presenter, explorer and adventurer; Alain de Botton – philosopher, broadcaster and author of The Art of Travel;  Sarah Miller –  Editor of Conde Nast Traveller and Will Whitehorn – President of Virgin Galactic, the world’s first spaceline.

In Simon Calder’s Travel Adventure Theatre you’ll find panels, talks and interviews featuring travel experts like Tim Jeans, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines, Mark Smith, founder of The Man in Seat 61 and Dr Ben MacFarlane, bestselling author of Holiday SOS: Sun, Sea & Surgery.

Other speakers at the show include Benedict Allen - explorer, adventurer and filmmaker, polar guide and presenter of BBC’s ‘Oceans’ Paul Rose, and Neil Laughton, expedition leader and pilot of The Parjet Skycar, the world’s first bio-fuelled flying car, which recently completed a 6,000km trip from London to Timbuktu through the heart of the Sahara Desert by land and air.  The Parajet Skycar will be on display to the public for the first time ever at Adventure Travel Live.

Other show features include:

Big Earth Expedition Planning Feature: Meet the team and the machines behind Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s motorcycle expeditions and find out how they did it and how you can too.

Nat Geo Adventure Explorer’s Workshop: Practical advice on how to film, document and publish your next adventure on natgeoadventure.tv.

Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY): Be among the first to see the winning images of the 2009 Travel Photographer of the Year competition.
