Two of Retirement Villages Ltd’s care homes have had their three star rating from the industry regulator renewed. Thamesfield in Henley-on-Thames and Gittisham Hill Park near Honiton in Devon have both been awarded an ‘excellent’ rating by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) during annual inspections.

The three star rating is only awarded to those homes which demonstrate ‘particularly good services, (are) well managed and with a sustained track record of high performance’.

It is the third consecutive year Gittisham Hill Park, on Sidmouth Road, Honiton, has achieved the highest rating.

The 30 bed registered care home is part of a Retirement Villages Ltd development which also boasts 22 independent living bungalows with a further 10 bungalows currently being built.

Thamesfield has scored the highest rating for the second year running. The home shares its picturesque settings on the banks of the River Thames with a number of close care apartments.

Retirement Villages Ltd Managing Director, Care Division Paul Walsh said: “We are delighted both Gittisham Hill Park and Thamesfield have received the highest possible rating from the CQC. It is testament to the dedication of our staff and proof that best practice is employed in all aspects of running our nursing homes.

“It is reassuring for residents and their families to know we have been independently recognised as offering the highest standards of care.”

The CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care services in England, cqc.org.uk.

What the residents said about Gittisham Hill Park:

As part of the inspection, residents and their families were asked to complete surveys about their experience of the home. This is what they said:

- “I have nothing but praise for Gittisham Hill Park. The manager Carol is very good and clearly runs a very tight ship. The home Is always bright and airy and the residents always look well looked after and clean and well dressed. They are cared for very sympathetically.”
- “I have always found the management and staff to be dedicated, friendly and helpful.”
- “I don’t believe my father could want for anything else that any other home could offer over and above his present residence.”
- “Very clean – staff pleasant and attentive.”
