Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has this month honoured several Bahrainis comprising of pilots, engineers and various Gulf Air employees who have graduated from the Tamkeen-sponsored Career Progression Programme (CPP) which looks to develop local talent.

The graduate trainees were offered significant hands-on experience in intensive and important Gulf Air project work. The Career Progression Programme in specific also provided training and development courses to enhance the employees’ skills in an aviation organisation.

In the graduation ceremony held at the Gulf Air Club, Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer Mr. Samer Majali, and Mr. Abdul Monem Al Shaikh, Tamkeen’s Human Capital Development Manager and account manager for the Career Progression Programme, congratulated the candidates for successfully completing their on-the-job training and presented them with a certificate as a record of their achievement.

“Gulf Air has always been a key employer in Bahrain throughout its 60 year history and as the Kingdom’s national carrier we want to ensure that the next generation of Bahrainis have even more and even better opportunities within not only the airline but in the exciting global aviation industry.  Young Bahrainis today have a wealth of talent and enthusiasm which we at Gulf Air are keen to bring on board and benefit from as we move into a new and exciting era in the history of the airline.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tamkeen for their continuous support, and for investing into the skills of these graduates by supporting our initiatives, and building up the future of our hardworking and highly skilled employees” said Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer Mr. Samer Majali

“I am delighted to tell you here today that Tamkeen has invested in the training of 442 Gulf Air employees with its Career Progression Programme. Both Gulf Air and Tamkeen are firmly committed to investing in more Bahrainis and increasing the number of employment opportunities for them by enhancing their skills.  The existence of a high calibre young Bahraini workforce can only boost the economic growth of the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

Mr. Abdul Monem Al Shaikh, Tamkeen’s Human Capital Development Manager and account manager for the Career Progression Programme added:  “Our prime aim with initiatives such as this is to enhance the opportunities and productivity of the Bahrain labour force and to make Bahrainis the employees of choice, in addition to the wage increase which the Career Progression Programme offers in conjunction with the employer.  We are continually striving to boost the economy by opening doors for prospective candidates primarily at key positions in flagship Bahraini companies like Gulf Air as well as other key organisations and industries which are thriving here in Bahrain.  The Career Progression Programme commends each graduate today for their hard work, professionalism and active participation in taking a major step forward in their career growth. Similar training programmes will be introduced in the near future that empower our youth to make valuable contributions to the development of the Kingdom.”

“We take great pride in our partnership with Gulf Air who is dedicated to providing experienced and academically qualified Bahrainis ample opportunities for development in their career and would like to thank BDO Jawad Habib for their hard efforts in managing this programme” concluded Mr. Al Shaikh.

In addition Dr. Ehsan Ghurbal CPP Director at BDO who is the management partner with Tamkeen on the Career Progression Programme stated: “Gulf Air was one of the first companies who engaged on the programme with full commitments to develop their staff. Their high nomination of employees of 539 to be enrolled on the programme meant that BDO can offer them various tailored made training programmes specially designed for Gulf Air.

“Some of these programmes were cabin crew lounge officer and ground operation programme, Aircraft engineering for aircraft maintenance employees, Accounting Fundamentals for revenue clerks, Essential skills in tariff and ticketing for reservation agents; Call Centre Training Programme and many others. We believe it is the commitments of both the employees and Gulf Air managements, HR and Training departments which made this a success. We wish that they continue their development path and we can assure them that they have our full commitments to assist them in achieving their training goals.”
