Combine the antiquities of Egypt with sailing on the Suez
Tall ship sailing specialist Star Clippers is offering the chance to combine a 5* stay in the heart of Cairo with a unique Red Sea and 9 night Mediterranean Greek Islands cruise on board the magnificent four-masted tall ship `Star Clipper’, departing from Safaga April 16, 2010.
The new stay-and-cruise itinerary starts in Cairo with two nights at the five-star Sofitel Le Sphinx hotel, facing the legendary Pyramids of Giza. Arriving two nights before embarkation, the offer allows a whole day to explore the pyramids and the Sphinx, or to take a trip into the city to visit the magnificent Egyptian Museum and the sprawling Khan el Khalili market.
On April 18, the journey continues to Hurghada, from where there is a transfer to Safaga to join Star Clipper, one of the world’s most elegant and striking square-rigged sailing ships.
The nine-night voyage from Safaga to Athens mixes relaxation with some spectacular sights. Guests can a day on the beach in the popular Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh, followed by a blissful day at sea, sunbathing on deck. The transit through the Suez Canal is always thrilling, watching convoys of ships gliding through the narrow waterway and taking in the scenes of life on the banks.
After the canal, Star Clippers calls into Alexandria, rich with culture and one of Egypt’s most exciting port cities, before another day at sea as Star Clipper sails towards the Greek islands. Here port calls include the magnificent historic centre of Rhodes Town, built by the Knights of St John, and the typically Cycladean island of Mykonos, characterised by its dazzling white houses and windmills, before disembarking in Athens on April 27.
The price of £1,499 per person includes two nights’ B&B at the 5* Sofitel in Cairo and nine nights on board Star Clipper, including all meals, international and internal flights and all non-UK transfers and port taxes.
