Superchips ECU remap for LTI TX4 taxi hailed a success

Proving its diverse ECU reprogramming capabilities, Superchip’s latest release is designed for the most recent version of the iconic ‘black’ taxi cab, the LTI TX4, which is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

The brief for Superchips’ Buckingham-based technicians was to deliver additional driveability and economy; two particularly important parameters for a vehicle that is being driven for hours at a time through some of the most crowded streets in Europe.

Careful analysis of the LTI TX4’s Bosch EDC16 ECU uncovered several ECU optimisation opportunities, enabling Superchips to fine-tune the map settings to remove any inbuilt compromises and boost performance.

Post remap, both the performance and driveability of the LTI TX4 are significantly improved. Torque – a significant factor in the user-friendliness of any vehicle – is boosted from a measured 265Nm at 2622rpm by 88Nm at just 2156rpm, with a maximum of 339Nm at 2352rpm. This guarantees easy and swift progress; as the additional low speed urge means drivers have to change gear less frequently.

Power gains have been similarly impressive. As standard, the LTI TX4 produced a measured 103bhp at 3059rpm, but following the Superchips remap this leaps to 127bhp at 3479rpm, with a maximum gain of 27bhp at 2352rpm.

In addition, the extra torque of the Superchips upgrade realises fuel economy improvements on the LTI TX4, largely because the increased potency at smaller throttle openings translates into potential fuel consumption gains in the order of 10%.
