Terrorist attacks in Bangkok add to stranded passengers nightmare
Confused.com offers travel advice as officials declare Bangkok as a destination for essential travel only: Today the British Embassy amended its travel advice to advise against all but essential travel to Bangkok. This comes after concerns for the safety of British holidaymakers given the risk that violence could break out without warning during the increasingly volatile political crisis. This means that holidaymakers due to visit the city will not be covered by insurance if they travel against official warnings.
Added to the intense situation are passengers who are still in the city, waiting for delayed flights due to the disruption caused by the ash cloud. These people will be covered by insurance as they travelled to the destination when the area was not deemed to be a threat. Insurance providers will treat any claims encountered on a case by case basis as travellers presence in the area is due to unforeseen circumstances, out of their control.
British Airways have deployed a plane to rescue stranded travellers in Bangkok which is expected to leave Thailand on Sunday morning. Those who were planning to travel to Bangkok are advised to stay abreast with official statements which could have a direct affect on the safety of their trip. Travel insurance will not cover passengers who have travelled to an area which is deemed unsafe.
