Second care facility planned for Bromley Common

Petts Wood based developer Asprey Homes is pleased to announce its plans for a second care facility at its flagship development, Bromley Common within the London Borough of Bromley, Kent.
The news comes after the success of the first 60 unit extra care facility included within the Project which has been developed in conjunction with Hanover Housing Association, for over 55s who suffer from conditions including dementia and Alzheimer’s.
With its initial focus on the social housing phases at Bromley Common, Asprey Homes has been working in conjunction with Bromley Council to fulfil its housing requirements with a particular focus on ensuring that new accommodation for the elderly is provided as a priority.
Leader of the Council, Steven Carr comments: “This state of the art scheme is about giving older people in Bromley what they want – the chance to live independently in their own home for as long as possible. I am immensely proud this development is being built to the Council’s highest specification with an excellent design by Asprey Homes, and will mean people can live an independent life with their own front door, safe in the knowledge that 24 hour care and support is there for them.”
While other Local Authorities in the South East are closing down nursing homes and not necessarily replacing them, Bromley Council has identified a need for the provision of Extra Care Housing in the Borough. Their report ‘The future of long term care for older people – extra care housing strategy’ published in June 2007 suggests a target of 140 extra care units by 2010. The Bromley common Project has already provided 60 extra care units in Phase 1a and more recently the principle of a further 60 unit Extra Care in Phase 1b has received much support and could be in production later this year.
The Extra Care building will contain communal facilities including a lounge and restaurant area, informal seating, tea making areas, activity area, guest suite, hair salon, laundry, assisted bathroom, buggy store and a catering kitchen. Good levels of staff facilities are provided by way of changing rooms and staff rest room. The building will be staffed full time. There will be a full time manager based on the site during the day and a care team; other staff will include domestic and catering personnel.
Set among 24 acres plus public open space, The Bromley Common development will provide care facilities, a medical centre, and around 500 private one, two and three bedroom family houses and apartments together with shared ownership key worker accommodation.
