Barratt South Wales has strengthened its community relations with help to transform part of the Afon Afan river that borders its new development at Copperminers in Port Talbot.

The waterway, which has been named by the Environment Agency as an important spawning area for Brown Trout, had been overgrown and filled with rubbish for many years, and was virtually unrecognisable as a flowing river.

A team from Barratt South Wales set to work recently to clean up the river. Workers took two weeks to clear up the wasteland and redirect the river to allow for a healthy environment for the Brown Trout, which were then released back into their natural surroundings.

Barratt South Wales also contributed 17 new street lights to the area, with the aim of further improving the local community and improving the safety and welfare of all their residents.

Adrian Bird, sale director at Barratt South Wales: “We are delighted to have been involved in transforming this area for current and future residents at Copperminers and we’ve had lots of great feedback from local people thanking us for clearing up the stream which is now flowing again for the first time in many years. It’s always very satisfying to see a piece of derelict land transformed into an area where people desire to live and I am sure that it will now be enjoyed for generations to come.

“It’s great to see the water flowing again in the stream. For years it has been used as a waste ground for people to dump old tyres and has over the years become derelict."

The Copperminers development, situated in the picturesque village of Cwmavon, offers 2, 3 & 4 bedroom terraced, semi and detached houses. It has excellent commuting links, being located close to J41 of the M4, giving easy access to Swansea and Cardiff.

The area boasts some of South Wales' most breathtaking coastal and inland landscapes. The nearby town of Port Talbot offers an extensive range of shops within its high street and indoor market and slightly further afield, the bright lights of Swansea and Cardiff offer a huge range of cultural diversions and leisure opportunities.

Homes in the Copperminers development are priced from £122,500 - £244,950. For further information about the development, log onto: barratthomes.co.uk
