With the Premiership season now finished, many supporters will be thinking of how they can fund their season tickets for the next. Research by comparison site, moneysupermarket.com, shows the cost of 2010/11 season tickets and which clubs would have given their season ticket holders the most value for money during the last campaign based on the number of goals scored at home last season.

Blackburn Rovers fans finally have something to cheer about as they take the Premiership ‘value for money' prize based on the number of goals scored against the average cost of a season ticket. Blackburn season ticket holder paid just £8.70 for every goal they scored at Ewood Park in 2009/10. Premier league champions Chelsea finished 6h with fans paying £12.10 a goal, with Man United finished a place lower at £14.04 per goal. However Champions league qualifiers Tottenham Hotspur proved to be one the most expensive clubs to follow, costing £23.14 every time the ball hit the back of the oppositions net - over three times that paid by Blackburn fans. Wolves fans suffered the worst paying a £43.96 time to see their time score a goal.

Good news for supporters of the three sides promoted from the Championship, Newcastle United, Blackpool, and West Bromwich Albion, is that compared to the majority of their Premiership rivals, they would have provided the most value for money, finishing first, third and fourth respectively.

With the cost of season tickets being so high, many fans will be thinking of alternative ways of funding these purchases, and taking out credit to do so could make it even more expensive. Funding your season ticket on a credit card over 12 months would cost Blackburn Rovers supporters and extra £21.28, this raises to £80.58 for Tottenham supporters.

Kevin Mountford, head of banking at moneysupermarket.com, said; "With season ticket prices already costing a good proportion of a monthly salary, supporters should be looking at keeping costs at a minimum, for those that plan on purchasing this years season ticket on a credit card, they should be looking at the market for a card that best suits them, there are several 0 per cent purchase cards currently available where with careful repayment planning fans could purchase a ticket at no extra cost."
