Barratt staff get in peak condition for charity
Staff from Barratt in South Wales are gearing up this week to conquer the formidable Three Peaks challenge. Four teams will set out on Friday to tackle the task of climbing the three highest mountains in Wales, Scotland and England – all in aid of the Action Medical Research charity.
“My colleagues and I have been waiting for some time to take this challenge – and we’ve had no shortage of volunteers,” said team member, Sam Courtney.
“Each team aims to raise at least £2000, so we should be able to provide Action Medical Research a nice tidy sum once we’ve finished. It feels good to put in all this effort and be able to help such a worthy cause at the same time.”
The teams – Barratt’s Peak Performers, Barratt Wales Snails, Barratt’s Dizzy Ramblers and Barratt I Wants To Go Home – have trained for several months in the lead up to the event.
“We’ve had group training since February – with monthly four hour walks across the Brecon Beacons,” said Mike Williams from Barratt Wales Snails. “We’ve also been climbing every week up Pen Y Fan. Of course, there has been individual training too – with running, gym and cycling whenever possible. We all feel very ready for Friday now. We can’t wait to get going.”
In all 33 people will take part in the challenge with 19 Barratt staff plus some family and friends – with a support team of eight to ensure they safely reach the start of each stage. And team leaders, Matt Wood, Mike Williams, Rhodri Stephens and Sam Courtney are looking forward to leading the way.
“This is a huge challenge for us all,” said Matt Wood. “It’s a good job we’re all such good friends because I think there could be a few grumpy climbers along the way. I have no doubt we’ll make it and we’ll raise a large sum of money for our chosen charity.”
