Peen’s Gastro Bar announces summer menu

Peen’s Gastro Bar, which overlooks the sea at Broadstairs, has just announced a new menu for the summer season, which began in earnest with the start of the school holidays at the end of July.

The popular 40-seater gastro bar, with some al fresco seating, serves brunch from 10am including bubble and squeak with spinach and with poach egg for £6.50, with the kitchen remaining open all day until 10pm.

The new menu features local crispy fried squid with garlic aioli at £7, Chicken Superfood salad with broccoli, beans, roast tomatoes, rocket, seeds, and alfalfa nuts ad aioli for £11, with a vegetarian feta option at £8. There’s also a fish stew with tiger prawns, mussels, squid, saffron and local seasonal white fish for £11.00. There is also a range of bar snacks and tapas from £2.40 per dish.

“Broadstairs is certainly growing in popularity with food conscious ‘staycationers’ looking for a return to the ‘Victorian’ seaside holidays of their childhood and put off by airport delays and a weak pound,” said owner Matt Peen, adding “The early start to the summer with record high is certainly driving people to our sandy beaches which are among the safest and cleanest in the world.”

Located in the more upmarket of the three towns which form Thanet, Peens is recognised by the local tourist office as a “Reliable eating place where you can always be assured of good service, elegantly trendy and comfortable surroundings and an extensive appetizing menu.”

 Situated on the northeast coast of Kent, Broadstairs, along with the neighbouring towns of Margate and Ramsgate are collectively known as the Isle of Thanet, separated from the rest of Kent by the Wantsum. A few miles away is ‘White Cliffs Country’ including the coastal towns of Sandwich, Deal and Dover. The locality offers traditional bucket-and-spade family holidays and a wealth of upmarket tourist attractions.
