Trustees from the Carreg yr Afon Park Trust met with Taylor Wimpey this week to say thank you following a £1000 donation from the house builder to help rebuild the community toilet block at the park.

The park, which is located on Hodgsons Road in Godre’r Graig, has historically been used widely by schools, football teams and the local community. However, over the years, the public toilets have fallen into a state of disrepair.

Members of the Carreg yr Afon Park Trust are now trying to raise the £10,000 needed to rebuild the toilets and approached Taylor Wimpey, who is currently building along side the park, for assistance.

Sara Taylor, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales, commented: “The toilets really are in a terrible state, which is such as a shame as it’s preventing so many people from enjoying the park. We hope that our donation will go some way towards helping with the rebuild and we’d urge other companies within the local community to get in touch with the Carreg yr Afon Park Trust to show their support. The park is such an important part of the community so together, let’s see if we can reach the fundraising target and get the park back in use as quickly as possible.”

Susan Rees from the Carreg yr Afon Park Trust, comments: “There is currently a very old building where the toilet used to be but it desperately needs knocking down and rebuilding. I was born and bred in Godre’r Graig and now have grandchildren living here and I do feel that so many children are missing out. The park has been home to Godre’r Graig football team for generations but now there is a risk they won’t be able to play here, due to complaints from other teams and officials about the lack of facilities. We fought a few years ago for a children’s play area and we were successful so we hope that people will show their support once again to help us restore the toilets to their former glory!”

Ideally situated just three miles from Pontardawe, with stunning views of the Brecon Beacons, Taylor Wimpey’s Glyn Mynydd development offers a range of three and four bedroom homes perfect for first time buyers, through to families, starting at only £109,995.
