First time buyers given a boost in Gwent

20th August 2010 Print

Buyers looking to own a home for the first time are being given a helping hand by Barratt. The developer is hosting a special weekend, at two of its most popular developments in the region, to help first time buyers make their move into the property market.

St.Josephs Meadow in Llantarnam and St. Mary’s Court in Portskewett will host the events on Saturday August 21. And a team of experts will be on hand at both developments to advise would-be buyers on a number of schemes designed to ease the challenge of buying a home for the first time.

“The process of buying your own home seems too difficult for many. They are often put off by the tricky financial aspects involved with securing a mortgage,” said Barratt sales director Adrian Bird. “Barratt offers a number of schemes that can help – like Head Start so hopefully we can open a number of doors for people during our events and help them take their first step onto the property ladder.”

Head Start is a shared equity scheme that allows buyers to secure a home for just 85 per cent of the asking price. The remaining 15 per cent is funded through a deferred Barratt loan. And buyers don’t have to pay this until the home is sold again or in ten years – whichever is sooner.

The participating developments are already proving popular with buyers looking to put down roots in the area. Adrian expects the interest to increase still further when potential buyers learn more about what is available to them.

“The weekend events will give buyers a chance to see the wonderful properties on offer at St.Josephs Meadow and St.Mary’s Court – and we are hoping we can help a great number of visitors buy their first homes here,” he said.

St. Josephs Meadow offers a quiet retreat just outside the vibrant town centre. Nearby, Cwmbran's fully pedestrianised retail complex offers a selection of top brand names. And new local developments are set to include an 8-screen cinema, restaurants and a range of cafes and bars.

Close to the river and the Monmouth Brecon Canal, this ideal location blends all the benefits of a country life with the convenience of the town.

Nearby, St Mary’s Court is situated in Portskewett – a small village on the Welsh short of the Severn Estuary between Chepstow and Caldicot. This attractrive development has something for everyone – with a selection of three, four and five bedroom homes.
