TV chef backs ‘Restaurants Against Hunger’ appeal

10th September 2010 Print

Thackeray’s restaurant in Tunbridge Wells and Hengist in Aylesford near Maidstone, both co owned by TV chief Richard Phillips, are to donate £1 to ‘Restaurants Against Hunger’ (RAH) charity, each time a customer orders their venison. Phillips has created a Roast Loin of Chart Farm Venison served with roast root vegetables, pancetta, chanterelle mushrooms, and pomme soufflé with a game jus.

“Venison is very lean, healthy and full of flavour – it has a lower fat content than chicken, is higher in iron than other red meats and is low in calories, carbohydrates and cholesterol and is a valuable source of essential Omega 3 acids,” said Richard.

Family-run Chart Farm has 400 acres of pasture and woodland, where its fallow and sika deer spend their entire lives free roaming free in a picturesque semi-wild environment.

“Living on an entirely natural diet, our meat is rich and full of flavour and produced as stress-free for the animals as possible with all culling and processing taking place here on the farm without the animals having to be transport over long distances,” said Chart Farm’s Sebastian Petersen.

Thackeray’s and Hengist will also be serving pheasant, partridge, mallard, hare and pigeon throughout National Taste of Game Fortnight (6th to 20th November), and Thackeray’s will hosting a special Game Night on Friday 19th November with a special 6-course tasting game menu for £48 - £65 with matched wines. Chicken and fish options will be offered to the culinary-challenged.

Members of the Richard Phillips Restaurants in Kent Facebook group will be entitled to 2 for 1 dining at the TV chef's Chapel Down restaurant which is serving a 2- or 3-course lunch menu of local produce for only £12.95 and £14.95 respectively, created for British Food Fortnight - extending the offer, Monday to Thursday, for the whole of October.
