Sabai Sabai has been crowned the winning restaurant of the hugely successful Taste Trail, organised as part of the recent Royal Leamington Spa Food & Drink Festival.

Indonesian infused Sabai Sabai in Regent Street received the most votes for their food and were also joint winners of last year’s Taste Trail. In very close second place was the newly opened South Indian cuisine Kayal. Strada and Cafe Rouge were both in joint third place. Pizza Express, The Sozzled Sausage, The Benjamin Satchwell, The Clarendon and The Shakespeare were all voted ‘Highly Commended’.

The initiative, organised by BID Leamington, encouraged people to visit up to 9 different and diverse restaurants to sample their food in return for a small donation. All participating restaurants reported record visitor numbers and were delighted with the opportunity of showcasing their venues. Over 2,567 samples of food were given away and over £1,000 was raised for charity. After sampling the food, visitors were asked to rate each restaurant ‘gold’, ‘silver’ or ‘bronze’ on their Taste Trail card.

Those that took part were entered into a prize draw to win a meal for two at the highest rated restaurant. The winner of the prize draw was Martina Palmer from Leamington Spa who wins a meal for two at Sabai Sabai. On hearing she had won the prize, Martina stated “The Taste Trail is a fantastic idea and great publicity for the restaurants. The food was excellent at Sabai Sabai, they put so much effort into the event and I’m delighted they’ve been crowned the winner”.

Preecha Thaosantia, Manager of Sabai Sabai stated “We are thrilled to have won for the second year running. The Taste Trail initiative always works very well for us. Hundreds of people had the opportunity of sampling our dishes over the weekend and we had some wonderful feedback.”

Helen Smith, Executive Director of BID Leamington, stated “Yet again the Taste Trail has been a fantastic success. You could feel the buzz as you walked around the town. The participating restaurants put so much effort into the event and I’m delighted to see so many gold, silver, bronze and highly commended winners!”
