Tour operator, Cox & Kings, has announced a record-breaking year for its tours to Jordan.

Already this year, passenger numbers to the country have increased by almost 20% compared to 2009 and is the company's second best-selling destination after India.

Since 2008 there has been a 36% increase in bookings for the 'Splendours of Jordan' group tour and a 74% increase in tailor-made itineraries to Jordan, which is a trend mirrored across the Cox & Kings' portfolio. Middle East Product Manager, Mark Stacey, says "Clients are drawn to Jordan for its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural beauty and of course the rose-red rock city of Petra. As one of the more cosmopolitan and politically stable countries in the Middle East, people feel safe to travel there but come to us for the knowledge and expertise of our specialist tour consultants. Clients value our feedback and input and with our flexible and comprehensive tailor-made programme there is very little that they cannot do or see".

To cope with the increase in demand, Cox & Kings have increased the number of departures of the 'Splendours of Jordan' group tour for 2011 by 58% to 52. The tour stays at the Marriott hotels throughout, spending 2 nights in Amman, 3 in Petra and 2 at the Dead Sea at the end. An unforgettable highlight on the group tour is Petra by Candlelight, when 1800 candles light up the narrow gorge leading down to the Treasury, which itself is illuminated by candles.

The 8-day tour is priced from £1,395 per person and there are numerous options for extending the itinerary further such as the Red Sea, a night camping in Wadi Rum desert. The price includes international flights with Royal Jordanian from London Heathrow, transfers, accommodation with breakfast daily and other meals as specified, local guides at Jerash and Petra, and the services of a tour manager throughout.
