5th November 2010 Print

Champions League star Gareth Bale has backed a new web site offering exclusive big name interviews and podcasts for football fans.

The site, lifesapitch.co.uk, will bring football lovers hard-hitting debate and exclusive interviews with big name players, such as Gareth, teammate Peter Crouch and England and Manchester United legend Michael Owen.

There will also be twice-weekly topical video podcasts hosted by Sunday Mirror columnist Mike Calvin with a panel of top sports journalists, who will offer the most biting comment and insider gossip about what’s going on in football at all levels.

The panel have already delivered their verdicts on the Wayne Rooney transfer saga, troubles at Liverpool FC and given a critical insight into Fabio Capello’s reign at the helm of the national team.

Another feature of the interactive site is a chance for ordinary fans to blog about their Premier League or Football League team in the Fanzones. They can give the view from the stands on their club’s performances, star players and even speculate about transfers. Other users can also get involved by posting comments or blogging their own reports.

Welsh international Bale, who has been outstanding this season for club, country and in the BT Sky Sports ads, appeared on a specially turfed football pitch on London’s Southbank and performed football tricks in front of hundreds of members of the public to celebrate the launch of the brand new fanzine from BT Vision. The launch came the day after his outstanding performance led Tottenham to a 3-1 win against Champions League holders Inter Milan.

The website was designed to celebrate BT’s entry into football for the long term, having been given the ability to sell Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 to its customers for the first time this season.

The site will also pride itself on fan interaction and participation, by offering opinion polls for readers to take part in, social network interaction with Facebook and photos, and regular competitions to win fantastic prizes.

Gareth Bale said: “I am very proud to be part of the launch of this great new website, Life’s A Pitch. It’s fantastic for fans to have such a wealth of content and information, from commentary and debate, to news and interviews with people like myself. I think BT has a great new football offering on their Sky Sports BT Vision service, and has established itself as a new player in the world of football. It’s brilliant that a lot more fans can now have access to the sport and the teams that they love.”
