With less than a week to go until Christmas, the latest insight from Orange customers reveals a new breed of shoppers avoiding the festive rush by shopping from their mobile phones, at night. One in five (18%) admit to a spot of bedtime buying, while almost a third (31%) multitask and shop for presents whilst also watching TV. Saturday night’s now alright for shopping according to the survey with it ranked the top day of the week for mobile shopping.

The poll, conducted through the Orange mobile website, Orange World, also highlights that busy Brits are snatching time to buy presents during the working day. 13% admit to shopping for presents from their mobile in secret whilst at work, while 11% make the most of the downtime during their commute to and from work.

What might be under the Christmas tree is also revealed with the trends snapshot showing searches for lingerie up 28% as Brits try to spice things up this winter. Popular retailers have also seen a boom in searches over the past few weeks, with Amazon and Argos topping the list as most searched for retailers on Orange World as shoppers search for coveted presents for friends and family.

Most searched for retailers on Orange World:
1. Amazon
2. Argos
3. Ebay
4. Asda
5. Tesco
6. New Look
7. Next
8. HMV

Steve Ricketts, Head of Mobile Commerce, said: “Mobiles are making shopping easier this Christmas, as people can buy presents in secret from their phones - without worrying about being overlooked or found out by anyone. So whether you’re looking to buy a special gift for a loved one, or simply have no time to go to the shops and need to buy on the move – you can make sure Christmas shopping is hassle free this year.”
