New scheme helps students make extra money
Students wanting to make a few quid to boost their Christmas coffers must look no further than their Facebook friends thanks to a new initiative from NUS Extra.
Under the new ‘Extra Minted' scheme, owners of the NUS Extra card simply recommend the card to their friends via a specially created Facebook application which provides a personal referral code. For each friend that then purchases one of the £11 discount cards, a £1 referral fee will be paid via Paypal.
The NUS Extra card is a firm favourite with University and 6th Form students across the UK giving exclusive discounts on over 100 brands from clothing to magazine subscriptions. More than 500,000 cards are sold each year.
In the first week of the referral scheme the top referrer was Sarah Owen who made £40 from referral over just 7 days.
Ed Marsh from NUS Extra comments: "We know that students who have the NUS Extra card love it, so it makes perfect sense that they would recommend it to their friends. This scheme just lets us say thank you for that referral, allowing students to make money, as well as save money with their card."
