Waterloo Bar and Grill opens on 20th January

Waterloo Brasserie is delighted to announce it will re-open as Waterloo Bar and Grill from 20th January 2011. The new restaurant, which is located near Waterloo Station at 119 Waterloo Road, SE1 8UL, will offer Londoners quality but affordable food right in the heart of the vibrant SE1 Southbank arts and cultural scene.
Kane Planken joins as Head Chef and brings with him a wealth of experience having worked at award winning restaurants in both Britain and Australia.
Kane’s aim is to provide diners with quality British food that is accessible both to the pocket and the palate. The menu is unfussy, uncluttered, honest and offers great value for money. Starters include: ham hock salad; rabbit terrine, brioche, grape purée and goats cheese and thyme soufflé.
Other dishes on offer include: slow grilled pork shoulder served with apple pureé and mustard glaze and fillet of red snapper with hazelnut & caper dressing. Diners can also choose from a selection of grilled steaks and fish, as well as a range of sharing platters to start and burgers including wild boar with applewood cheddar, watercress and smoked chilli jam. Desserts include favourites such as muscovado brownie with vanilla bean ice cream or, for the more adventurous, exploding chocolate mousse with berry purée and shortbread.
As well as the new menu the interior has had a major refurbishment; the former blood red and masculine black colour scheme has been replaced with soft yellows and neutral beige tones. The restaurant and bar will be used to exhibit contemporary photography and artwork from the likes of Sanders Nicolson and Phillip Gatward. Due to its close association with Ronnie Scotts, every Saturday night the bar area will host live jazz events with artists such as the highly acclaimed jazz trumpeter Jay Phelps.
The Waterloo Bar is headed up by the talented Davide Pastro (formerly Tamesa at the Oxo Tower) whose signature cocktails include Lychee Martini and Berry Breezer. The bar area can accommodate up to 200 people standing and boasts its very own terraced courtyard.
General Manager, Cathy Bolton, brings with her extensive experience after working with high profile London restaurateurs including Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers at the River Cafe, Trevor Gulliver & Fergus Henderson of St. John and Oliver Peyton.
Waterloo Bar and Grill hopes to become the new hot spot for Londoners to enjoy quality, yet affordable food and drink in the city whether it’s for a hearty breakfast, a quick lunch, pre-theatre dining for the Old Vic, National Theatre, the IMAX or for a more indulgent dining experience.
