A happier retirement in Rhos-on-Sea

Reports show that more and more people are deciding to retire abroad, and Drs John and Merrall Jenkins were once such a couple, upping sticks from their home in Gloucestershire and setting off for the sunnier climes of Cyprus.

The couple initially went to the country for a recuperative break for Merrall and enjoyed their time there, so decided to move back for retirement. Although they had a number of happy years abroad, planning for the future led them to the conclusion that the care services where they were living would not be sufficient as they got older. At the same time they happened to come across an advert for Adlington House in Rhos-on-Sea.

Designed exclusively for the over 55s, Adlington House has a variety of apartments which offer buyers both independent living and a helping hand in the form of tailored 24-hour on site care packages from MHA (Methodist Homes for the Aged). On one visit back to the UK to see their daughter, who lives in Colwyn Bay, the couple decided to pay it a visit.

Seeming to suit their needs, they decided it was the place for them. John, comments: “When we visited Rhos-on-Sea, we found that Adlington House offered us everything that we were looking for. We searched for something similar where we used to live in Gloucestershire, but nothing matched the specialist care we can get here.

“What’s really important for us is to know that there is help there if we need it, plus the apartments are great and definitely meet our requirements. But what really sealed the deal for us, was the fact that Adlington allows pets, so we have been able to bring back our Cypriot Poodle, Libby.”

There are a selection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments available at Adlington House which all have generous living spaces, a good-sized master bedroom with fitted wardrobe and a beautifully appointed kitchen with a full range of integrated appliances. While many apartments benefit from either a patio or balcony with sea views, there are also beautifully landscaped shared gardens for all the residents to enjoy.

The couple are currently renting their apartment, as they try to sell their home in Cyprus and the bolthole they kept in Colwyn Bay, but have settled in nicely, as John explains:

“We are slowly moving in, and now have all our belongings from Cyprus. As we have been quite busy, we have been using the bistro at Adlington House quite regularly, which is very convenient. Plus, it gives us a chance to get to know the neighbours. We’re looking forward to some upcoming social events too.”

John continues: “We’re very happy with the choice we made to return to the UK. We are very well travelled and have lived abroad before, but Rhos-on-Sea is the perfect place for us to settle. The scenery and landscape is beautiful, what with the sea and mountains. Plus, it’s lovely to be close to our daughter, so we’re looking forward to our future here.”

Prices of the apartments at Adlington House range from £170,000 to £335,000, however as well as a choice of stunning properties, residents can also enjoy the lap of luxury; with a range of on site facilities including communal lounges, a library/computer suite, hairdressing salon, exercise room and the bistro; so everything purchasers need is literally on the doorstep.

The development is perfect for both people seeking a more leisurely pace of life and those looking to make the most of an active retirement. Lying within walking distance of the seafront and local shops, Adlington House is well placed for the broad range of sporting and social clubs in the area such as golf and sailing.

To view the stylish apartments for yourself, visit the development, open daily from 11am to 4.30pm, or visit adlington.co.uk for more information.
