A lovers' feast in Tonbridge

The Harrow in Hadlow near Tonbridge is now taking bookings for its Lovers’ Feast Valentine’s menu. The classic village pub, now run by Jason and Vanessa Scott, offers a choice of dining areas with a spacious conservatory, cosy ’nook’ and bar with an open log fire, which make an ideal location for a romantic evening.
The pub's award-winning Executive Head Chef, Simon Brazier, who sources most of his ingredients locally, has created a gourmet menu with a choice of four dishes for starters, main courses and desserts at only £24.95.
Options include Carrot & Coriander Soup, Baked Camembert and Seared Scallops. Mains are Steamed Chicken Supreme, Roasted Stuffed Romano Pepper, Chateaubriand (£5 per person supplement), or Vanilla Infused Halibut. ‘Cupids Sweet Arrow’ Desserts are a Rich Chocolate Fondant, Strawberry Millefeuille, Lime Posset plus a Lovers’ Cheese Board.
The Scotts recently turned to their native Kent, having had a three-year spell running the Green Dragon pub in Youngs End, near Braintree in Essex. Their first pub was the Jolly Drayman in Gravesend.
“We had a good time in Essex and learned a lot about managing a food-led establishment – but the abundant availability of top quality local produce with a more discerning clientele and first-rate chefs that you find in Kent with its scenic countryside, proved too much to resist,” said Jason.
Jason and Vanessa had been regular customers of The Harrow and made regular return visits to Kent and fell in love with its “friendly, local feel”.
The couple have great plans for the Shepherd Neame establishment. They are planning an Easter egg hunt when the large garden, which features ample seating a Pentanqe pit, patio heaters and children’s climbing frame, will have a giant inflatable bouncy castle for the weekend.
During the summer, the pub will offer a unique ‘rent-a-barbecue‘ scheme, where customers can bring their own food to cook, or buy steaks and home-made burgers to cook themselves.
