60% of motorists don’t know the value of their car

Getting an instant and accurate used car valuation while on-the-move is now easy thanks to vehicle valuation expert, Glass’s. Its newly-launched iPhone App, which is free to download through the App Store, enables users to get a precise valuation for any car in a few steps by simply keying in its registration number and mileage.

Tim Brown, Head of Consumer at Glass’s, said: “We’ve surveyed car buyers and understand that one in three people find car buying stressful, and seek confidence that they’re well equipped to negotiate on price. Our new iPhone app provides a simple-to-use facility that people can access whilst shopping for a vehicle. No two vehicles are the same; which is why it is important to get an accurate mileage-adjusted valuation of a car based. Vehicle prices are constantly changing and it is therefore increasingly important that car buyers get peace-of-mind when either buying, selling or part-exchanging with a dealer.”

“We talk to our customers regularly and a recent poll revealed that only 40% of motorists who valued their car received a price that was in line with their expectations, with a staggering 45% believing their car was worth more than it actually was,” continued Brown.

“Access to Glass’s database of over 82,000 vehicle models is already available through Glass’s website, but now consumers literally have this information at their fingertips. Getting a valuation on the move has never been simpler.”

In order to obtain a Glass’s Used Car Valuation, priced at £3.49, users simply need to enter the registration number of their car and the service will return five values per car; three trade-in values differentiated by condition, a private selling price and the price expected to be seen on a dealer's forecourt. Valuations can then be shared via email, Facebook and Twitter.

To coincide with the forthcoming Red Nose Day, Glass’s has pledged to donate all profits generated throughout the month of March from its iPhone app to Comic Relief. “March is traditionally a busy month for car buying, so motorists out shopping for a new car can get the benefit of obtaining an accurate valuation for their car whilst supporting this popular and worthwhile fundraising event”, concluded Brown.  For every 4 valuations bought through the app, customers could be paying for 10 Ugandan children to be tested for malaria. In-app payments are taken through iTunes for iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad , meaning secure payments can be taken without having to enter credit card details. The app has also been developed for Android handsets and should be available to download from the Android Market Store within the next few days.
