Brits get on their bikes as fuel prices reach an all time high
Rocketing fuel prices have led to a surge in interest for cycles, according to Idealo.co.uk.
Data from the price comparison site shows that searches for bikes are up by as much as 58 per cent this March as consumers try to avoid filling up with expensive fuel.
Additional data reveals that Brits are quickly losing patience with record prices at the pump. As consumers look to get around quickly but save money, electric bikes have seen a 175 per cent surge in interest in comparison to last month.
According to Idealo.co.uk, mountain bikes, road bikes and hybrid bikes are also proving popular. Based on its experience helping over a million consumers a month find the best deals, the price comparison site has the following tips for cycle shoppers:
• Cut the cost with voucher codes - Urban Surfer and ExtremePie are currently offering 10 per cent off certain bike models
• Keep your cycle safe - buy a decent lock which costs around 10-15 per cent of the cost of the bike
• Cycle comfortably - most new bikes come with cheap uncomfortable saddles so invest in a new one which matches your cycling posture and ride duration
• Pick the correct frame size - when you stand flat footed on the ground make sure you have between 1 and 3 inches of clearance of the top frame tube
“Cycling can be a great way to cut costs and keep fit,” said Matt Hopkins at Idealo.co.uk. “It’s important not to rush into buying a bike just because it’s cheap, though. If it isn’t comfortable and easy to ride then you’ll soon be longing for the comfort of your car seat while the bike will just end up gathering dust in your shed,” Matt added.
