Summer events at The Mulberry Tree

The award-winning Mulberry Tree restaurant in Boughton Monchelsea in Kent has announced a programme of summer events, which runs from May through until August.

One of the highlights of the programme is a “Celebration of Kent” dinner with the winemaker Julian Barnes, the owner and winemaker of Biddenden Vineyards. Julian is ‘selling himself’ for the evening in aid of Demelza House Hospice!

“The warm, dry weather we have had over the last months has meant the growing season has got off to a fantastic early start,” said Julian, adding. “The vines are currently looking to be about three weeks ahead, and if this weather continues through the season, it could have a very positive effect as we approach harvest, particularly in the earlier ripening varieties such as Pinot Noir and Gamay.”

A Taste of Provence - Thursday 16 June 2011
Inspired by a recent trip to Provence, The Mulberry Tree is offering a 4-course menu featuring regional Provencal dishes, accompanied by wines from the Ventoux vineyard. Martin Day from Bibbenden wines will host the evening to give an insight into the vineyard and wines. The 4-course menu is £35 or £55 with matched wines.

Sunday Jazz on the Terrace - 19 June (Father’s Day) and 21 August
Come along and enjoy music by the Smooth Jazz Quartet (including sax) on the terrace, weather permitting. £24.95 per person 3-course menu.

Celebration of Kent Evening - Wednesday 20 July 2011
An opportunity to sample some of the best Kentish food and drink. A special 6-course menu compiled by Mark Pearson will incorporate some of the finest, local produce available. All accompanied by the award winning Biddenden wines and ciders. 6-course meal £45 (£65 with matches wines and ciders). Aperitifs and canapés will be served on the terrace from 19.30, sitting down at 20.00.

Dinner with the winemaker Julian Barnes, the owner and winemaker of Biddenden Vineyard is ‘selling himself’ for the evening in aid of Demelza House Hospice. Wine lovers can bid to have Julian join their table throughout the dinner. The winning bidder will also receive a guided tour of the vineyards and winery at Biddenden, followed by tastings of the full range of award winning wines, ciders and juices, on a date of you’re their choice.

“Having one of Kent’s loveliest alfresco dining areas in our sheltered walled terrace makes a perfect setting for entertainment or pre meal aperitifs and canapés, or post dining coffee and liqueurs” said Mulberry Tree owner, Karen Williams, adding “Here’s hoping for a long hot summer.”
