TV chef to serve Kentish produce for British Open golf VIPs

TV chef Richard Phillips is producing a Kentish produce menu, featuring some his exquisite signature dishes for VIPs and clubhouse members at Sandwich Golf Club’s fine dinning restaurant at the British Open Golf in July.
Richard will be cooking a special lunch menu will be served on all 4 days of the Open from 14th to 17th July, including Roast Saddle of New Season Kentish Lamb, Glazed Tenterden Potatoes, Stuffed Baby Peppers with Kelly’s Canterbury Goats Cheese, Slow Cooked Baby Plum Tomatoes with Thyme and Chapel Down Bacchus Lamb Jus.
Kent-based Richard Phillips is chef-patron of four restaurants in the county – Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells, Hengist in Aylesford, Richard Phillips at Chapel Down near Tenterden and The Pearson’s Arms by Richard Phillips in Whitstable.
Phillips, whose menus feature the best of locally sourced ingredients, is widely regarded as a champion of Kent food for his appearances at farm markets and food festivals, judging children’s cookery competitions and charity work.
“It’s a great honour to be cooking for such exalted guests t one of the great world’s sporting occasions,” said Phillips, who plays off a handicap of 14, who is quietly hoping for a quiet practice round with Tiger Woods
After training at Thanet College, Richard Phillips began his career at London’s famous Savoy Hotel, before to working with the Roux Brothers at Le Gavroche and then becoming Head Chef for Marco Pierre White at The Criterion, Mirabelle and Les Saveurs. He spent two years at Schrager Hotel Group, building and directing teams in both the Sanderson and St Martin’s Lane hotels.
He had his own Michelin-starred restaurant before the age of 30. Richard’s first restaurant, Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells, is well known as one of the best in Kent. In its ten years, Thackeray’s has won numerous accolades including a Michelin star, three AA rosettes and ‘Best Gourmet Restaurant’ in the Kent Restaurant Awards.
In 2004 he took ownership of Hengist in Aylesford, near Maidstone, turning it into an elegant and intimate dining experience
With England’s leading wine producer since 2008, he has secured two AA rosettes and Kent English Restaurant of the Year with, Richard Phillips at Chapel Down is fast becoming one of Kent’s leading restaurant experiences.
The Pearson’s Arms in Whistable was acquired December 2010 and rapidly became one of the town’s most popular venues.
Richard is now a recognised television personality, regularly appearing on popular shows including, ‘Lorraine’, ‘GMTV’, ‘Ready Steady Cook’, ‘Saturday Kitchen’ and ‘Daily Cooks Challenge’.
