Chattenden properties to be refurbished by Annington Homes

28th June 2011 Print

10 former Military of Defence (MoD) properties, situated on Chattenden Lane in Chattenden, are to be released for sale on the open market once refurbished by Annington Homes; a private company who is recognised for investing time and expertise in redeveloping ex-MoD homes.

The 10 three and four bedroom semi-detached properties were officially handed over to Annington Homes in May 2011 from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (formally Defence Estates Housing), who manage accommodation for service personnel and their families on behalf of the MoD.

The former married quarters will then be modernised both internally and externally and released for sale. With refurbishment work due to begin this month, each of the homes will benefit from a brand new kitchen, bathroom and stylish interior living space.

The properties are no longer required by the MoD as military personnel are being transferred to new training facilities in Bicester. Chattenden Barracks was demolished in 2004 and the MoD will start its relocation from the Lodge Hill Training Area next year. Plans are being brought forward by a separate company called Land Securities to redevelop the brownfield site into a new community comprising homes, employment opportunities and new community facilities, over the next 15 years.

It is anticipated that the remaining 19 MoD properties on Chattenden Lane will be handed over to Annington Homes next Spring.

Angela Walsh, Head of Sales & Marketing at Annington, commented: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to return these former MoD properties on Chattenden Lane to homes for families. We look forward to giving these properties a new lease of life and finding new owners”.

Angela continues: “The homes are located in an area which will benefit from impressive regeneration and extensive new facilities. In the past, the prospect of refurbished MoD homes has spurred potential buyers to camp out ready to be first in the queue for the properties, which tend to be larger than average family homes. This, combined with the exciting plans for the area, makes these homes a tempting prospect."
