Family finds more space at The Grange, Maidstone

With a new baby and a toddler in tow, kitchen designer Spencer Theobald and his school teacher wife Alexandra were looking for more space and more free time to enjoy family life.

A brand new home at The Grange, in Maidstone, was the ideal solution as it offered them a traditional home filled with family friendly features, and a low maintenance lifestyle.

As the first to move in to the new phase of Redrow’s redevelopment of the former Senacre College site, the couple purchased a four-bedroom detached ‘Stratford’, leaving behind their smaller three-bedroom terrace in Coxheath.

Their new home has plenty of space for Zachary, two, and eight week old Montgomery to play, and room for their mum and dad to relax.

Spencer’s job ensures he has an eye for interior design, and Redrow’s bright modern interiors lived up to his expectations. He said: “We loved the combination of traditional exterior and contemporary interiors offered by Redrow’s New Heritage Collection. They look like proper family homes from the outside and inside there’s lots of space. I like the feeling of openness. When I walk in the front door I can see right through to the kitchen diner and out into the garden through the French doors.

“As it’s my job, I’m obviously quite particular about the kitchen design, but Redrow have done a good job and it’s nicely planned.

“We have previously lived in a new build home, so we know that the lifestyle they offer is very convenient. There’s little to no maintenance and we don’t have to spend our weekends doing DIY, we can just enjoy them together as a family. That’s especially important with such young children as we just wouldn’t have the time to spend doing an older property up to the same standard.”

The family are also reaping the benefits of buying brand new, including improved energy efficiency and solar powered hot water, which is included on many of the homes at The Grange. A brand new Redrow home is also up to 40% more efficient than one built only 10 years ago, so potentially cheaper to run over time. It includes integrated appliances covered by manufacturers’ two-year guarantees; and comes with an NHBC 10-year ‘Buildmark’ warranty for added peace of mind.

Buying new also lets you take advantage of developer incentives such as part exchange. Available on selected homes for people with an existing property to sell, part exchange means Redrow will effectively act as cash buyer for their existing home, in many cases making an offer on their house within just 48 hours. They won’t have to worry about estate agent’s fees or getting stuck in a complicated housing chain.

The Grange will incorporate some stunning mature trees and areas of open space, while being just a short walk from the picturesque Mote Park and conveniently close to Maidstone town centre.

Built on the former site of Senacre College, current availability at The Grange includes three-bedroom homes from £249,950 and four-bedroom homes from £276,950.

As Kent’s county town, Maidstone has a wide variety of shops, schools, sports and leisure centres, bars and restaurants. Maidstone East station offers journey times to London Victoria or Charing Cross of around an hour and a new high speed service from Maidstone West station takes just 47 minutes to reach London St Pancras, currently running during peak times on weekdays.
